Weekend Post : Legends
There are many types of legends. A legend is a notification placed on certain stock certificates describing the terms and conditions of sale and ownership. There are different types of legends such as greek legends , wwe legends , and boxing legends. Recently one of these boxing legends has been in a boxing match. This boxer is the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. He was born in Grand Rapids , MI on February 24 , 1977. Mayweather caught the nickname pretty boy during his boxing career because his fighting techniques kept him from getting any bruises or cuts. He's not only a boxer , he can be a dancer too. On the fifth season of ABC'S dancing with the stars , he was paired up wit dancer Karina Smirnoff. Hes even into music because he owns the hip hop record label Philthy Rich Records. Weekend Post : Poetry
We all know what poetry is due to my last weekend post about poetry. Poerty can be for anything such as holidays , birthdays , society , and more. This week was Earth day. Poets have made poems on days like these and I am going to recite one. My poem is by another author. Earth day is celebrarated on April 22 in the US and is a day to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earths enviroment. The first Eath day was created in 1970. You can find numerous poems on Earth Day Poetry website. I find the poem Earthd Day a very cute poem that helps me understand the meaning of Earth Day. It describes what you see in the world and just paints the global picture for me! Another good website is Earth Day Activities which presents numerous campaigns and activites and / or programs that have to do with Earth Day. There is a climate decaration for this Earth Day! Weekend Post : Storytelling and Poetry
Over the spring break , my teacher , Ms.Ford gave me an assignment to read a book called Coraline. This book is written by Neil Gaiman. It is about a little girl named Coraline who discovers a secret door in one of the flats of her giant house. Coraline who is an explorer took an adventure in this room after her mom went to the supermarket for food. It turns out there is this fliped dimension where Coraline has this other mom , dad , dog , Forcible , Spink , and Mr.Bobo. Coralines other mom who is evil tries to keep Coraline in her world and give her whatever she likes. Coraline has to find a way to get her real parents back and get rid of the other mom forever. When she gets back to the real world all that is left is other mom's hand. Coraline tricks that scary looking hand into the forbidden well her father took her to as a little girl. Weekend Post : Storytelling and Poetry
Storytelling and poetry are quiet the same except for a story is a story and a poem is a poem. A poem is an arrangement of words , a rhythmical composition , sometimes rhymed in a style more imaginative than ordinary speach or prose. A poem tells a story or explians something. A story is the telling of an event or events. Everyone reads poetry and stories. You can find poems and stories here Online Literature . This is a great website with millions of books and poems. One example of a book with stories and poems is Chicken Soup for the teenage soul 3. These are a collection of more stories of life , love , and learning. It is the #1 New York Times Bestseller. There are different topics for these stories and poems. Lets go back a few centuries ...... William Skakesphere was a very famous writer and he wrote stories such as Romeo and Juliet. A beautiful childrens book called Anansi the spider was passed on from time to time. It is an african story about a spider to the Ashanti people. It is by Gerald McDermott. Even "A Raisin in the Sun" with the poem dedicated to Langston Hughes was so famous and honored.

Weekend Post : Mythology and Legends
A myth is a traditional story serving to explain some phenomenon , custom , ect. A legend is a different story. It is a story or body of stories handed down for generations and popularity believed to have a historical basis. From what we know the both of these are simular because they are stories that explain something. One famous type of myth and legends are greek. According to About.com , a greek myth and legend are stories about Greek gods and godesses. Also , it is about the wonderful adventures of heroes in Greek mythology. The greek gods and goddeses are Aphrodite , Apollo , Ares , Artemis , Athena , Dementer , Dionysus , Hades , Haphaestus , Hera , Hermes , Hestia , Poseidon , and Zeus. There are 14 of these gods and they all live on mount olympus. Lets focus on one. Zeus is the king of all 14 gods. He is also the god of the sky , weather , thunder , order , law , and fate. He is the ruler of Mount Olympus. Zeus is married to his sister Hera after he over threw their parents by the names of Kronos and Rhea. No one knows how he really looked but , in art he has a beard and very mature. The thunderbolt and eagle means Zeus.

Weekend Post : Custom Festivals and Folklore
A festival is an occasion for feasting or celebration, especially a day or time of religious significance that recurs at regular intervals. Many festival celebrations are used to celebrate customs which are practices followed by people of a particular group or region. Spring is even celebrated in certain countries with different religon. One example is Bulgarian festivals. Every year on March 1st , Bulgarians give one another 'martenitsas'. Martenitsases are small things made of white and red threads. It is a symbol of the awakening of spring , health , and happiness. Then , in late May , the rose picking seasons starts in the Valley of Roses. It sarts at dawn , before sunrise , and before the rose frangrance has had a chance to dissapear. The Bulgarian oleaginous rose hold 70 percent of the world's collection of roses used by every well known perfume company. When you think of a rose perfume , Bulgarian's will come to your mind! This custom is celebrated carnivals , processions , folk songs and dances. The dances are held in Karlovo and Kazanluk on the first Sunday in June.

"Wanna fly to the corner store to get a gallon of milk and chips?" All you have to do is weigh 140 to 240 pounds. This weekend , I read an article on the future's flying vehicles called "The Future Now : Jetpacks to go on sale late this year." This article talked about how flying cars and robot maids may be far from reality but , thanks to New Zealands Martin Aircraft Company , later this year , you'll be able to buy your own jetpack. After 30 years , they are starting to gear up those sales. This Matin Jetpack uses gasoline! A range of 31 miles and a maximum speed o 63 miles per hour , you can go up to 8,000 feet. It's going to cost you about $100,000. Works just like a motorcycle. Your going to need a liscence. These jetpacks will only be allowed from dawn to dusk. They plan to sell 500 of these $100,000 jetpacks so if you have 100 grand burning a hole in your pocket , the future looks fun for you indeed.

Every day there is new news. Today , Mach 6th , 2010 , on www.foxnews.com , I read about an entertainment story called 82nd Anual Academy Award Nominees. It's about who has scored the top nominations for the biggest awards in movies. I read another article about thw world. The title of this article is "Father of Abducted British Boy Gets Phone Call from Kidnappers." It is about a father of a five year old British boy who got snatched in Pakistan. The father got a phone call from the kidnappers on Friday. The kidnappers said : "The boy is with us and we'll call you later." through a message. He got grabbed from his grandmothers home in theb Punjab. They just want their son back. They said this breaking down in tears.

Popular Culture is contemporary lifestyle and items that are well known and generally accepted, cultural patterns that are widespread within a population according to http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/popular%20culture. There are different types of culture including music, film, television, advertising, sports, fashion, toys, magazines and comic books, and the medium in which this message moves, cyberculture. For example , the Chinese always make items and send them to America. Plantains from Columbia that are taken to the U.S. are icons that are examples of popular culture. Songs like Abusadora and other spanish songs are an example of popular culture. Popular culture can even be in languages such as French , a very romantic language. It is in movies also : Mean Girls - Harm in competion and identity ; The Lion King: family, loyalty, jealousy - Aladdin: difference between social status, honesty, freedom. As you can see , popular culture is a diversity : ALL AROUND YOU.

Weekend Post 4
Education is the act or process of imparting or acquiring general knowledge, developing the powers of reasoning and judgment, and generally of preparing oneself or others intellectually for mature life. It is something that a child or an adult should treasure and be proud of. You should not waste your education. To many education may be more important than a job. Our President , Barack Obama has a plan for our education. He is preparing our children to compete in the global economy. There are three steps to that. Step 1 is to improve K-12 schooling. Step 2 is expand access to higher education. Step 3 is make sure our children are prepared for kindergarden. Obama is making college affordable for students. He is our cheat sheet on education. I live in New York City and my gosh , the education rates are not that high. The New York City department education gives us way too many breaks and passes. All you see is summerschool , failed regents , and kids getting left behind. I had regents week , mid winter , and I'm going to have spring vacation. I can't wait until summer comes. I am a teenager so , I am not the right one to address this situation but , I can. Graduation rates are a little low all together. Education is important. It hols your future in its hands.

A women is an adult female person. Some woman issues are abortion , pregnancy , weight watching , breast cancer , stress , and divorce. Of corse men can catch breast cancer too but , women are most likely to catch it. Having no children can increase breast cancer. If you are overweight or drinking alchohol , you can catch breast cancer. They have to watch out a lot. They also have to watch their weight. Having a baby , drinking alchohol , or just overeating , can lead to being overweight. There are weight loss programs for women like Rachel Ray on commercials and Special K. There are even diet tips all over the internet. Lastly , stress can kill a woman. Most likely , stress comes from children , work , and from getting old. Medicines like Advil PM can treat that. Also , puchasing a temperpedic bed can heel hat. As you can see , women go through too much stress.

Right after a basketball game in Monessen High School , a student got tazered by a beloved Police officer. It was outside of the gym on Friday. This school is located in in Monessen , Pennsylvania and you can see what happened for yourself on WorldStarHipHop.com or on CNN : Huffington. Regents Week
It's not a vacation , more like 7 boring days of nothing. It's regents week. That's when the students who have to take their regents today go to school and the rest of them stay home. We come back on Tuesday because Mondays no school either. I guess I'm going to finish my presentation by explaining the quote.

Martin Luther King Jr.
Born on January 15th , 1929 Micheal Luther King Jr. fought segregation and discrimination for so long. He changed his name to Martin later in his days. Graduating from highschool at age 15 was the best for him because he segregated public schools in Georgia. He recieved a B.A. in 1948and from Morehouse College and a B.D. in 1951. He recieved a degree in 1955. He had a family of two sons and two daughters. He was a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People when his house was bombed , and he was arrested being subjected to personal abuse. He spok over 25 hundred times for the colored folks. His march of 250 , 000 people for "I HAVE A DREAM" made him conferr with President John F. Kennedy. He was arrested twenty times and assualted four times. He was the youngest man to have recieved a Nobel Peace Prize and he was 35 years old. On the evening of April 4, 1968, while standing on the balcony of his motel room in Memphis, Tennessee, he was assassinated. He was to lead a protest march in sympathy with striking garbage workers of that city. Now on January 18th we celebrate the important African Americans death. Some of his speaches were recorded.

Final Touches to the Slideshow
This weekend we are completing our slideshow projects. I have finalized my project but , I only have one problem. The problem is that the slideshow doesn't show. It is completed though. I already have all of my pictures finalized and all of my work done. So , I guess I have to keep working on that.
